For pedestrian gates and light commercial applications, use LOX Locking ES15 Electric Strike 12/24VDC. They can accept voltages of either 12 or 24 VDC because they are dual voltage products. With just a small screwdriver, the ES15 Electric Strikes can be easily switched from being Fail-Secure to Fail-Safe (Power to Release to Power to Lock).
